Registered Nurse (RN) - Cath Lab (Nason Medical Center)
Job Type: PRN | Daylight position, generally 8-hour shifts (may change to 10-hour shifts). Off on weekends and holidays, except when on call. A 30-minute response time is required while on call.

How you‘ll contribute

A Registered Nurse (RN) - Cath Lab who excels in this role:

• Makes decisions and judgments in preventing, analyzing, and resolving patient care concerns.

• Reports patient status refers problems when necessary and anticipates situations that prevent/minimize adverse outcomes.

• Maintains competency in patient sedation assessment and management.

• Maintains competency in Pain Assessment and management of pain.

• Maintains confidentiality of all patients, hospital, and employee-related information.

• Participates in Performance Improvement based activities and hospital based as directed.

• Demonstrates ability to adapt to various age specific patient populations.

Unit Specific Clinical - Cardiac Catheterization Lab:

• Understands and applies principles of aseptic technique.

• Provides patient assessment, education, intervention, documentation and management of patients while in the Cath Lab.

• Acts as a resource for the technicians, secretaries, and other staff.

• Assumes responsibility as team leader as assigned to assist with patient management, coordination of patient flow, delegation of duties.

• Assumes responsibility for patient care management and is the team leader during emergency call in cases.

• Performs the role of circulator or monitor during the Cath procedure.

• Cross train to scrub assistant.

• Provides input in the development of policies, procedures, quality control and marketing of the Cath Lab.

• Demonstrates ability to operate and maintain all equipment in accord with instructions, policies and procedures. Notifies the Cath Lab Manager and/or Charge RN of any problems with the equipment.

• Oversees the restocking of rooms to assure readiness for emergent cases.

• Responsible for cleaning Cath Lab, equipment and holding area between procedures according to infection control policy and procedures.

• Assumes responsibility, authority and accountability for clinical practice.

• Follows safety procedures and guidelines. Reports unsafe conditions.

• Maintains safe handling of hazardous and infectious materials in accordance with Hospital policy.

• Enters complete and accurate data into the established database.

• Uses all Cath Lab computer system for work related activities. Safeguards all computer information and maintains confidentiality. Proves ability to navigate all computer programs.

• Adheres to time scheduling exhibiting flexibility. Assumes on call responsibility, with required response time of 30 (thirty) minutes or less.

• Assists in OPSU and ICU/CCU area as directed.

• Assists with the performance of all lab procedures, including, and not limited to, cardiac pacemakers, TEE, and cardioversion procedures and recoveries.

• Demonstrates clinical competence in basic cardiac physiology/pathology, 12 lead EKG interpretation; physiologic monitoring (intra cardiac pressure waveform knowledge), pacemaker operations (implantable and external) and other radiographic equipment related to cardiac care.

• Management of critically ill patients during transfer to other health care facilities.

Education:

• Assists in the orientation and continuing education of new staff, other staff members, and students.

• Attend unit specific educational programs.

• Promotes cardiac education programs in the community.
