Medical Assistant
Do you have healthcare experience providing exceptional patient care, and thrive in a fast‑paced environment that provides opportunities to grow and learn? UPMC is hiring a Full‑Time, Medical Assistant to support the UPMC Arlington Ortho‑West. The position is located at 1830 Good Hope Road, Enola PA. Travel to other Central PA locations is required 75% of the time. Those with healthcare experience will be given priority over those without experience.
Schedule:
Monday through Friday (shifts between 7:30 am and 5:00 pm). No holidays or weekends. Job title and salary will be based on qualifications and career ladder requirements.
- Check schedules and organize patient flow.
- Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.
- Collect patient information and history; take vitals, perform screenings per provider guidelines.
- Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance.
- Maintain privacy and security in compliance with HIPAA and other state and federal regulations.
- Prepare and clean patient, exam, and procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
- Manage inventory of supplies; restock exam/procedure rooms.
- Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e., OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health).
- Comply with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.
- Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs.
- Perform clinic procedures according to policy and procedure.
- Answer calls and provide pertinent information including patient education as directed.
- Obtain lab/x‑ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
- Complete forms/requisitions as needed.
- Schedule appointments.
- Prepare and manage charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately.
- Other front office responsibilities, as required.
- Under the direction and supervision of a physician, administer injectable medication and vaccines when appropriate.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic, and treatment room responsibilities.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Successful completion of Medical Assistant Program or equivalent hospital program (LPN/RN/EMT).
- OR successful completion of certification examination (AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT or NHA).
- OR at least 1‑year prior patient care experience required.
- Must be responsible and demonstrate proficiency in three practice category specific tasks.
- Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic, and treatment room responsibilities.
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34 with renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
