General OverviewThis position performs prescribed sonography procedures at a technical level that does not require constant supervision. The Technician competently performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment and initiative.
Responsibilities- Position patients and perform imaging procedures, analyze results, identify quality issues, and take appropriate action to resolve image issues (including repositioning and repeating procedures). Enter, transmit, and report scan results. (50%)
- Review patient history and physician orders; educate patients regarding procedures, equipment, and exam to ensure understanding and cooperation. (20%)
- When ordered, prepare and administer contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice. Monitor patient condition continually and report/respond to changes in status as appropriate. (15%)
- Prepare equipment and supplies; select appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters; implement safety standards and perform appropriate quality control procedures on equipment. Troubleshoot, resolve, and/or report equipment malfunctions as necessary. (15%)
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Allegheny Health Network
Qualifications Minimum- Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school; or six months to one year of relevant experience and/or education as determined by the company in lieu of associate’s degree.
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) or Sonography‑RT(S) or Vascular Sonography‑RT(VS) certification and registration via the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Breast (BS) via ARRT earned prior to 2011 or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) certification via Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) required within 12 months of hire.
- Technologists who have been performing ultrasound prior to and continuously since October 1996 AND evaluated by a responsible physician to assure competence are not required to obtain certification.
- Employees in an Ultrasound role prior to July 1, 2022 who do not have certifications are not required to obtain them.
- CPR – American Heart Association
- Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
- Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
- Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
- Prior sonography experience
