ResponsibilitiesAs a First Line Risk and Compliance Officer, the Risk and Compliance Officer - Consumer Lending ensures that inherent risks in business processes, products, and activities are identified, assessed, mitigated, and monitored. This role partners with business leaders to ensure risks are understood, controls are designed and operating effectively, and activities support safe and sound banking practices in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
The position executes risk and control self-assessments, oversees issue identification and remediation, monitors risk metrics, and escalates emerging issues. It serves as the primary risk and compliance liaison between the business and Second Line Risk and Compliance functions. The role may partner with Second Line Risk and Internal Audit during reviews, exams, and issue resolution. Finally, the role promotes a strong risk and compliance culture by embedding risk awareness into day-to-day business activities and training for business units.
The Risk and Compliance Officer - Consumer Lending must have a comprehensive understanding of lending regulations and guidelines, including Truth in Lending Act (TILA), Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA), Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA), Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), and other applicable federal and state laws. They should have thorough knowledge of all loan products and related systems, including consumer, mortgage, and home-equity processes, underwriting standards, disclosures, and documentation requirements.
Knowledge of risk factors such as fraud detection, fair lending practices, and data integrity is essential to ensure compliance throughout the loan lifecycle. This role requires the ability to monitor loan origination, servicing activities, and exception handling, while proactively identifying compliance gaps and implementing corrective measures to maintain regulatory adherence and protect the organization from risk exposure.
- Knowledge of credit union regulations and standards (e.g., BSA/AML, OFAC, Fair Lending, UDAAP, privacy, lending compliance)

Education Level: General and business knowledge equivalent to a bachelor’s degree
Certifications:
Certification in Compliance (CRCM and/or NCCO) preferred;
Certified Mortgage Compliance Professional (MBA) preferred;
Credit Risk Certification (CRC) preferred
