Wood Core Engineering LLC is a structural engineering and drafting firm specializing in mass timber and wood framing systems across the Mid-Atlantic region and beyond. We provide structural design, engineering support, detailing, and turnkey timber solutions to architects, developers, and general contractors—bringing innovative wood structures from concept through fabrication and construction. WhatYou'll Do as a Structural Drafter
- Develop structural construction documents and BIM models using AutoCAD, Revit, and Cadwork.
- Create 2D and 3D structural drawings, shop drawings, and fabrication models for mass timber and wood framing projects.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, and construction teams to ensure accuracy, feasibility, and constructability.
- Perform clash detection and resolve model conflicts within BIM environments.
- Generate 3D models for quantity takeoffs to support estimating and proposal development.
- Research building codes and revise drawings to meet applicable structural and regulatory standards.
- Prepare foundations, framing plans, and complete structural contract documents.
- Maintain organized project documentation and participate in coordination meetings.
- Conduct occasional site visits (approximately 5%) to gather field measurements and support project accuracy.
- Experienced: 5+ years of structural drafting experience or experience in construction required. Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications. Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit (BIM required). Familiarity with building codes preferred.
- Detail-oriented: Strong visualization skills with the ability to translate complex structural concepts into accurate BIM models and coordinated construction documents.
- Flexible: Comfortable shifting between multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Organized: Manage revisions, documentation, and model coordination with consistent accuracy and follow-through.
- Communicative: Collaborates effectively with architects, engineers, and field teams, asking thoughtful questions and supporting smooth project coordination.
- Full-time position, 40-45 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-4:00 PM
- $60,000-$75,000 per year, DOE
