Job Description

Allied Steel Buildings is seeking an experienced and technically proficient Detailing Manager to lead our detailing department globally. The ideal candidate will oversee the end-to-end detailing lifecycle for pre-engineered metal buildings (PEMB) and structural steel projects. This pivotal role requires expert management of Primary Structure, Secondary Structure, and Sheeting & Trim detailing packages.

As the Detailing Manager, you will drive the BIM workflow, utilizing Tekla Structures to ensure precision in modeling and seamless integration with Strumis for fabrication management. You will act as the bridge between Engineering Design and Fabrication, ensuring high-quality shop drawings and efficient data transfer to production.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage, mentor, and evaluate a team of direct in-house employees and contract professionals (Detailers and Checkers), fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Lead and schedule the detailing team, ensuring all projects meet strict deadlines and quality standards.
  • Manage the production of complete detailing packages, including anchor bolt plans, erection drawings, and shop drawings for Primary, Secondary, and Sheeting/Trim components.
  • Lead departmental initiatives for Continuous Improvement, implementing and maintaining detailing procedures aligned with ISO 9001 quality standards.
  • Conduct root‑cause analysis on detailing errors to update standards and prevent recurrence.
  • Implement and enforce QA/QC procedures to minimize field errors and back charges.
  • Act as the technical authority for Tekla Structures, ensuring the correct use of custom components, templates, and interoperability settings.
  • Oversee the generation of precise fabrication packages, including shop drawings, erection drawings, and BOMs for primary/secondary steel and complete sheeting/trim systems.
  • Manage the interoperability between Tekla Structures and Strumis, ensuring accurate BOM and CNC data export for the fabrication shop.
  • Collaborate closely with Structural Engineers to resolve design clashes or constructability issues prior to fabrication.
  • Work closely with the manufacturing team to ensure detailing output aligns with shop capabilities and machinery constraints.
  • Maintain an active presence on the shop floor to resolve fabrication inquiries, clashes, or drawing interpretations immediately ("in situ").
  • Coordinate directly with Project Managers and Customers to manage RFI processes and revision controls.
