Aboutthis Role
IFS Infra Source is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join our High Voltage Underground (HVUG) team. The HVUG team specializes in the safe and efficient installation, maintenance, and upgrading of complex underground electrical transmission systems to ensure reliable power delivery.
This role will work closely with the HVUG Program Director, Superintendent, and project field crews. The Project Engineer will be a hybrid role requiring periodic travel between multiple project sites throughout the country, with most work requiring an on‑site presence coordinated with the Program Director.
Field involvement is critical for developing the Project Engineer’s understanding of all aspects of underground transmission construction, ultimately making them a key asset in successful project execution. Emergency response is also expected, as our team frequently responds to urgent customer needs.
What You’ll Do- Develop and review design specifications and plans to ensure proper coordination and installation
- Support project teams throughout all phases, from pre‑construction planning to project completion
- Coordinate with subcontractors and clients while building and maintaining strong relationships
- Perform engineering calculations
- Provide technical guidance and support to field crews
- Collaborate with construction, procurement, and permitting teams
- Conduct site visits to inspect work and verify quality standards
- Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, and safety standards
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues that arise in the field
- Assist project managers with oversight of larger projects
- Manage smaller projects to gain hands‑on project management experience
- Perform additional duties as needed
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in electrical utility construction
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, or related engineering field (preferred)
- Professional Engineering (PE) license (preferred)
- Proficiency with CAD, Microsoft Office Suite (including MS Project), Adobe, and Bluebeam
- Strong understanding of general construction processes and coordination
- Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and personalities
- Excellent communication skills for conveying information between field, office, and customers
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities
- Commitment to high quality and exceptional service
- Knowledge of project financial tracking and management
- Ability to perform under pressure with confidence
- Willingness to access all areas of a construction site in varying conditions
