Process Control Engineer
Location: Sugar Grove, PA
Salary: $75,000 - $100,000 annually
We are seeking a skilled Process Control Engineer to design and implement instrumentation, electrical, and automation systems—both new installations and enhancements—to optimize production quality, efficiency, and compliance with health and safety standards. This role also provides technical support to operations, maintenance, and environmental teams, troubleshooting issues and ensuring smooth plant performance. A key responsibility includes programming and maintaining the plant’s Emerson Delta
V Distributed Control System (DCS), which incorporates Analog, Fieldbus, Discrete, Modbus, and other communication protocols.
- Design & Development
- Collaborate with process engineers to create instrumentation and control system designs for Process Design Packages.
- Prepare cost estimates for AFEs (Authorization for Expenditure).
- Develop detailed scopes of work for vendors, engineering firms, and contractors.
- Create or oversee development of control system programming configurations and operator graphics.
- Project Management
- Assist in conceptual design, cost estimation, and scheduling for capital projects.
- Participate in HAZOP and safety system reviews.
- Manage bid processes, evaluate proposals, and handle scope changes.
- Oversee installation contractors and/or plant maintenance teams.
- Support equipment checkout and start-up activities.
- Leadership for Control-Only Projects
- Serve as project leader for automation-focused capital projects.
- Develop AFEs and track costs and schedules.
- Respond to Engineering Requests and operational troubleshooting needs.
- Adjust process control tuning and document changes.
- Generate MOCs for control system modifications.
- Direct system administration and maintenance activities.
- Continuous Improvement
- Stay current on control system advancements.
- Attend safety training and ensure compliance with all safety standards.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong understanding of process control principles and industry standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Delta
V programming software. - Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to resolve technical issues quickly.
- Strong communication skills for cross-department collaboration and presentations.
Primarily office-based with regular fieldwork in shop or plant environments. Expect occasional overtime, weekend work, and participation in an on-call rotation for after-hours support. Field activities may involve confined space entry, navigating equipment, and working is required in construction and field areas.
Education & Experience- Required:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in instrumentation, control systems programming, and DCS/PLC systems. - Preferred: B.S. in Chemical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering; 5–10 years of petrochemical process control engineering experience.
