TITLE:
SPECIAL EDUCATON TEACHER
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Valid Pennsylvania Department of Education Certification in content area required.
* Highly qualified teacher status in content area to fulfill special education teacher assignments.
* Fulfill all performance responsibilities successfully.

School Principal and Principal in charge of Special Services
JOB GOAL:
Maximizes students' fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation as able and responsible adults.
Performance Responsibilities:
* Follow Pennsylvania Special Education Regulations, Standards and district special education guidelines in relation to process and procedures required while providing assigned special education students a Free and appropriate public Education (FAPE).
* Conduct annual Individualized Educational Programs (IEP's) in accordance with IEP timelines.
* Assess student learning and provide progress monitoring updates on IEP goals as frequent as reported to students in the general education classroom.
* Conduct parent meetings with parents in the event that a special education student is not meeting with success in school to identify alternative strategies and interventions.
* Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
* Coordinate the preparation of reports and conduct routine re-evaluation conferences in accordance to required biannual or tri-annual timelines in order to assess student needs and progress for appropriate IEP development.
* Schedule and confirm required IEP and re-evaluation meetings with parents / guardians and report dates, times and place to the secretary of student services so that invitations can be mailed by the office of student services.
* Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
* Consult with and work collaboratively with general educators in the provision of special education services based on a continuum of educational options; i.e. planning with general educators, participate in collaborative instruction in the general education classroom, provide pull out services when necessary for students having difficulty in the general curriculum, etc.
* Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the district, and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
* Prepare for classes assigned, and show written evidence of preparation upon request of supervisors in the form of lesson plans and other organizational techniques.
* Assist the administration in implementing all policies governing student life and conduct.
* Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in a fair and just manner.
* Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided, the needs and capabilities of the individuals or groups of students involved, and with stated objectives.
* Strive to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and curricular and instructional goals and objectives which are communicated to students.
* Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
* Assess the accomplishments of students, as well as the progress of teaching on a regular ongoing basis.
