Central York School District (CYSD) is seeking a dedicated and reliable full‑time Special Education Instructional Assistant/Personal Care Assistant (IA/PCA) to join our Sinking Springs Elementary School team! The ideal candidate will be committed to supporting students with diverse learning needs in a positive, safe, and inclusive environment. This individual should be patient, compassionate, and proactive, with a strong ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
As an IA/PCA, you will work closely with special education teachers and support staff to assist students with academic instruction, social development, and personal care as needed. You will play a vital role in the daily success of students by helping them access learning, follow routines, and reach their individual goals. Special Education Instructional Assistant/PCA

Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesPlease note: Duties and responsibilities for this position will vary depending on the building and grade to which the position is assigned, and if the position supports an entire classroom, a small group of students, or provides one‑on‑one assistance to a student.
- Provide and facilitate activities for all in the assigned subject area.
- Provide assistance to students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). Assist student(s) with staying focused and on‑task, monitor and report behavior problems; take notes on material being instructed, re‑teach/teach material; assist students with completion of homework & tasks, classroom projects, and use of technology/computer.
- Prepare students with IEPs for quizzes and tests (i.e. study sessions, review games).
- Administer quizzes/tests as per IEP under guidance of classroom teacher and special education teacher.
- Attend/participate in IEP and team meetings, when required. Become familiar with IEPs of students serviced under the direction of the special education teacher.
- Assist with preparation and set‑up of learning activities, monitor students' activities; provide one‑on‑one assistance with learning activities and test taking in class and through tutoring, data collection, grade assignments and tests.
- Teach learning strategies to individuals and small groups in one or multiple subject areas. Develop and implement learning activities (i.e. flashcards, worksheets, etc.).
- Record assessment data for students with special needs.
- Assist with student supervision in hallways, at breakfast, during assemblies, and at the beginning and end of school day.
- Provide services in the community/work environment for learners with disabilities.
Special Education Instructional Assistants must reach a qualified status as required by Pennsylvania regulations. Therefore, all Instructional Assistants/PCAs employed by Central York School District are required to meet one of the following qualifications:
- Complete at least two (2) years of post‑secondary study (48 credits) OR
- Possess an Associates Degree or higher OR
- Meet a rigorous standard of quality as demonstrated through a state or local assessment.
Central York School District recognizes two (2) local assessments to assist paraprofessionals in attaining the PDE requirements:
- The Special Education Credential of Competency (free of charge; provided by CYSD) OR The CAPE test (must receive a passing score of 80% or higher)
- Maintain 20 hours per year of professional development related to identified position
- Current First Aid and CPR certification based on assignments
- Must have obtained (or will obtain) valid PA Criminal, PA Child Abuse and FBI Criminal History Background Checks within the last twelve (12) months.
$15.55-$20.30
* Step placement shall be based on years of service recognized by employer.
