POSITION

PURPOSE:

The primary function of the classroom teacher is to teach the student skills, knowledge, concepts, generalizations, principles, appreciations, and attitudes pertinent to the teacher's area (s) of academic certification while contributing to the development of the student's sense of self-worth and development as a productive member of society.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

  • Assesses individual student and class needs.
  • Determines appropriate learning objectives for the class, and follows the objectives of the program and course of study adopted by the W.C.S.C.
  • Plans appropriate learning experiences for students and files such plans as required.
  • Plans group and individual instruction that provides for the differences of individuals and groups and responds positively to requests for help by students.
  • Makes clear, practical demonstrations and explanations that complement the goals and objectives adopted by the corporation.
  • Creates an effective classroom learning environment.
  • Monitors students' progress and evaluates students' achievement of the objectives and goals of the program.
  • Reports individual student's progress to parents and school personnel through the preparation of grade reports and/or the holding of conferences.
  • Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service education activities of the school district and/or selects appropriate professional growth activities.
  • Reviews and selects necessary instructional materials and supplies utilizing instructional displays, tools, and bulletin boards where available.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior in the classroom and on school property providing available information to the administration when necessary to assist in student due process.
  • Keeps accurate records and reports, meets timelines, and maintains appropriate confidentiality when necessary.
  • Administers standardized tests in accordance with the school district's testing program.
  • Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school or school district.
  • Plans and coordinates the work of paraprofessionals assigned to the teacher.
  • Works cooperatively with staff, administration, colleagues, and parents.
  • Participates with the Principal or the designee in the evaluation process according to corporation guidelines for evaluation and assessment of teachers.
  • Is prompt and strives for good attendance.
  • Attends monthly staff meetings as scheduled by the Principal unless arrangements have been made to be excused.
  • Recognizes that the professional teacher is the key to successful classroom experiences for students.
  • Shares in the total school program and experience for students.
Qualifications
  • Appropriate certification as required by the Indiana Department of Education.
  • Ability to plan and organize.
  • Skills in human relations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively before groups of students and parents.
  • Other qualifications as deemed desirable by the School Board.
