Position Definition:
The Special Education Teacher is responsible for planning, preparation, classroom environment, and instruction implementation in the Special Education classroom.

Relationship:
The Special Education Teacher reports directly to the Supervisor of Special Programs and Services assigned to their program.

Qualifications
  • PDE certification in Special Education.
Skills/Knowledge
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant software.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of PA IEP process.
  • Ability to prioritize and work independently.
  • Make professional decisions and lead staff.
  • Provide training and demonstrate knowledge of state standards.
  • Use technology effectively for communication.
  • Provide high-quality customer service.
  • Regular attendance during assigned hours.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, bend, sit, lift, reach, communicate, and travel as needed.
  • Manual dexterity and ability to perform physical tasks.
Authority

The Special Education Teacher has authority to perform all functions according to policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement IEPs.
  • Design instruction, assess student progress, and incorporate technology.
  • Manage classroom procedures and behavior.
  • Coordinate with staff and communicate with families.
  • Participate in professional development and district activities.
  • Maintain records and adhere to policies.
