AboutThe Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a materials scientist to join the Nature Reviews Materials editorial team as an Associate or Senior Editor working on all aspects of the journal. We are particularly interested in applicants with a background in materials chemistry, energy materials or sustainability, but we welcome applications from candidates in any area of materials science.
The position is offered on a full-time basis, and will be located in our Shanghai, Beijing or Heidelberg office. All employees are expected to be based in the office in line with Springer Nature’s hybrid working policy.
The responsibilities- Commission narrative Reviews and opinion pieces.
- Work closely with authors throughout the writing and revision process by providing feedback on synopses, developmentally editing first drafts, line-by-line editing the final manuscript pre-acceptance, and developing ideas for figures and other display items.
- Organize and manage peer-review.
- Write Research Highlights and other editorial content.
- Liaise extensively with the scientific community through laboratory visits and international conferences, virtually or in-person.
- A PhD in a materials science-related discipline, preferably within chemistry, energy materials or sustainability.
- Demonstrable ability to edit text for sense, clarity, factual correctness and language.
- Strong writing ability.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Keen attention to detail.
- Ability to absorb new areas of research, and identify new developments and research trends in fields beyond their immediate speciality.
- Willingness to travel to meet scientists, learn about their work and advocate for the journal.
Editorial experience is not required as full training will be provided. However, candidates with sufficient prior editorial experience might be eligible for a Senior Editor position.
