Position SummaryThe Project Engineer assists the Project Manager and Management Team in managing all aspects of a construction project, including financial administration and cost reporting activities.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Participate in developing, maintaining, and revising the project schedule in conjunction with the Construction Manager, Bridges Manager, or Project Manager & Superintendent.
- Manage the relationship and work of assigned sub‑contractors & suppliers.
- Mentor and guide less experienced Project Engineers.
- Communicate with owners about various project related matters and concerns.
- Demonstrate, communicate, and reinforce all Company safety policies and procedures.
- Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.
- May also perform the following duties depending on the size of the assigned project:
- Based on quantity takeoffs, manage the ordering of materials needed to successfully execute the project.
- Assist with pre‑construction activities such as construction planning and design; interpretation of design and drawings; prepare quantity takeoffs.
- Prepare drawings and sketches to support construction work, change orders, estimates, etc.
- Manage verification of work‑in‑place quantities for invoicing/pay quantities; verify accurate payment of subcontractors and material suppliers.
- Maintain submittal logs and timely receipt and review of submittals and shop drawings.
- Assemble construction financial data; monitor costs; track costs for force accounts.
- Maintain job costing system and update systems to reflect forecasts; create margin reporting.
- Ensure craft time cards are completed accurately, reflecting hours worked and tasks worked on; assign cost codes to all purchases, time cards, contracts, equipment time and any other item involving cost.
- Maintain as‑built drawings; post RFI, bulletin and ASI as appropriate.
- Maintain RFI logs and timely response to job questions.
- Assist with constructability reviews and value engineering functions.
- Develop, implement and administer project engineering procedures and other work documents; track and log documentation.
- Manage and maintain all safety and quality records.
- Develop, maintain, and update project CPM schedule.
- Ability to develop and manipulate resource and cost loaded CPM schedules for reporting and planning purposes.
- Prepare project status reports and participate in project status meetings; develop meeting minutes.
- Assist in project close‑out activities.
- May support estimates as needed.
- 4‑year degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
- 3‑5 years of experience in a similar role, Bridge construction experience preferred.
- PE preferred.
- This position is both outdoors and indoors.
- This work environment may involve minimal to moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises.
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts.
- Noise levels in the outdoor work environment is usually loud.
- Ability to wear and work in personnel protective equipment including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, ankle‑supporting safety‑toed work boots and a safety vest.
