Summary: The Summer Library Assistant works closely with coworkers and management to support the Circulation Department during the busy summer months.
Essential Functions- Perform basic circulation functions including checking in materials
- Empty book drops
- Sort materials onto carts in preparation for shelving
- Shelve library materials
- Flexible schedule based on the needs of the library
- Perform other duties as assigned by management
- Answer and place phone calls to patrons
- Report safety concerns to management
- Ability to complete keyboard entry
- Ability to talk, hear, and see
- Ability to lift 30 lbs., push carts weighing 50 pounds, and shelve materials on high and low shelves
- Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods of time and intermittently
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the library
- Ability to adjust to changing priorities
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Commitment to delivering excellent customer service
- Ability to perform tasks accurately
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Excellent communication skills
- Maintain confidentiality and ethical behavior in all library matters
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent
PreferredEducation and Experience
- Library experience
- Ability to speak a language in addition to English
Ability to pass Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Fingerprint Based Federal Criminal History Check.
