Description - Call for Expression of Interest for a joint application under the upcoming Call for MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships 2026

University of Genoa, UNIGE, located in Genoa, ITALY, welcomes postdoctoral researchers of any nationality, with an excellent track record, to apply to the European Commission Marie Sklodowska-Curie (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowships 2026. Our University has been beneficiary of several MSCA-PF in Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe.

The Marie Sklodowska Curie (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowship is one of funding scheme of the European Commission’s Horizon Europe Research & Innovation programme, dedicated to excellent research promoting international mobility, as well as interdisciplinary and intersect oral exchanges.

MSCA fellowship grant provides a competitive salary plus mobility and family allowances if applicable, as well as a contribution to cover research, training and networking costs. The research projects will have 2- or 3-years duration.

Selected candidates will be provided with special support for proposal writing and development
.

The University of Genoa will organize in May the fifth edition of the Masterclass MSCA@Uni Ge.Selectedcandidate researchers will have the opportunity to attend a 2-days online intensive training and coaching course on how to write a successful proposal. This masterclass is a pathway of support to candidates and their supervisors in preparing project proposal, includingprescreening activity of the draft proposals and the organisation of dedicated B2B meetings, by the European Research Office of Uni Ge, National Contact Point and other experts.

The masterclass will take place in Spring
2026

Research Project Description

We welcome applications in the areas of neural control of movement, motor learning, and sensorimotor integration, with a strong interest in the neural correlates of movement, force, and adaptation. Relevant topics include rehabilitation engineering, assistive and rehabilitative robotics, human–machine (including body–machine interfaces), sensory feedback, enhancement and substitution, markerless and wearable motion analysis, and computational approaches to motor control and learning. Particular emphasis is placed on innovative methods for monitoring, assessment, and training of people with neuromotor disabilities, older adults, newborns, and infants, as well as applications in sports and performance, within a translational neuroengineering framework.

Research

Group

Our research group investigates the neural mechanisms underlying sensorimotor control and learning, with a particular focus on the role of kinematic redundancy, sensory feedback, adaptation, and cognitive processes in the control of movement and force.

We study motor learning not only as a process for improving specific skills, but primarily as a fundamental mechanism through which the brain continuously adapts the control of a changing body in a dynamic and uncertain environment.

A central mission of our group is the translation of basic research into clinical and technological applications. We actively develop and validate innovative solutions in rehabilitation engineering, including body–machine interfaces, sensory enhancement and substitution systems, and assistive technologies aimed at improving the quality of life of people with neuromotor and cognitive disabilities.

The group has long-standing experience in the monitoring, assessment and training of individuals with multiple sclerosis, stroke and spinal cord injury, and older adults, combining advanced robotics with low-cost and accessible devices. Our current research also includes the assessment of pre-term newborns and infants, as well as the study of aging mechanisms and interventions to promote healthy aging.
