Description - Call for Expression of Interest for a joint application under the upcoming Call for MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships 2026University of Genoa, UNIGE, located in Genoa, ITALY, welcomes postdoctoral researchers of any nationality, with an excellent track record, to apply to the European Commission Marie Sklodowska-Curie (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowships 2026. Our University has been beneficiary of several MSCA-PF in Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe.
The Marie Sklodowska Curie (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowship is one of funding scheme of the European Commission’s Horizon Europe Research & Innovation programme, dedicated to excellent research promoting international mobility, as well as interdisciplinary and intersectoral exchanges.
MSCA fellowship grant provides a competitive salary plus mobility and family allowances if applicable, as well as a contribution to cover research, training and networking costs. The research projects will have 2- or 3-years duration.
Selected candidates will be provided with special support for proposal writing and development
.
The University of Genoa will organize in May the fifth edition of the Masterclass MSCA@Uni Ge
. Selected candidate researchers will have the opportunity to attend a 2-days online intensive training and coaching course on how to write a successful proposal. This masterclass is a pathway of support to candidates and their supervisors in preparing project proposal, including prescreening activity of the draft proposals and the organisation of dedicated B2B meetings, by the European Research Office of Uni Ge, National Contact Point and other experts.
The masterclass will take place in Spring 2026

Research Project DescriptionWe are seeking candidates for research focused on the development of low-cost prostheses aimed at improving accessibility and quality of life for individuals with limb loss, particularly in low-resource settings. The main thematic areas include:
- Design and Materials Innovation:
Development of affordable, durable, and functional prosthetic designs using cost-effective materials, such as lightweight composites or 3D printing technologies. - Bio-mechanics and User-Centric Design:
Optimizing prosthetic functionality to enhance comfort, mobility, and ease of use, including the study of biomechanical requirements for various prosthetic components. - Fabrication Techniques:
Exploring cost-efficient production methods, such as additive manufacturing or modular systems, to lower production costs while maintaining high-quality standards. - Sustainability:
Integrating environmentally friendly and sustainable materials into prosthetic development to reduce waste and make production more eco-conscious.
We invite candidates with expertise in biomedical engineering, material science, or product design to contribute to creating affordable and effective solutions for prosthetic users.
Research GroupThe MMA Group at the University of Genova focuses on the development of innovative healthcare technologies, including the design and fabrication of low-cost prosthetic devices. This multidisciplinary group combines expertise in biomechanics, material science, and design engineering to create functional, accessible solutions for individuals with limb loss. The lab is equipped with state-of-the-art tools for 3D printing, robotic prosthetics, and biomechanical testing, enabling researchers to design prostheses that are both affordable and high-performance.
Collaborations with healthcare providers, NGOs, and industry partners ensure that the research directly addresses real-world challenges in prosthetic accessibility. As a fellow, you will contribute to cutting-edge research aimed at improving the lives of prosthetic users through affordable, sustainable, and user-centered design.
