The research program has the main goal of developing tools to tackle the voltage security problem in transmission networks with a large presence of renewable generation by optimally employing non-costly control actions like (i) displacement of available reactive power reserves of synchronous and converter-based generators; (ii) tap-staggering; (iii) reactor/capacitor banks switching etc. The tasks to be developed are: (a) grid model data processing and analysis;
(b) development of grid reduction tools; (c) development of sub-transmission grid renewable energy plants aggregation tools; (d) development of security-constrained reactive power flow tools.
The tools will be developed in Dig Silent, Matlab and GAMS environoments.
