Politecnico di Torino – Department of Applied Science and Technology (DISAT) invites applications for a fully funded PhD position (36 months) focused on the fabrication and characterization of localized single photon sources (SPS) in SiCOI devices by direct laser irradiation.

Collaboration:
Join an international team of 15 PhD students across five European countries, partnering with five universities and one company. - Research Focus: All projects fall under the theme of Silicon Carbide on Insulator (SiCOI) devices and integration for applications in classical and quantum optical telecommunication and optical sensing.
- Training & Networking: Participate in common meetings with the other PhD students in the network, including three dedicated training schools.
The PhD will be based at PoliTO and includes mandatory international secondment and comprehensive training. The main supervisor is Full Professor Luciano Scaltrito at the Chilab-ITEM laboratory.
Responsibilities and TasksAs a PhD candidate you will:
- Design and optimise the packaging of SiCOI OFC and optical modulators for integration.
- Conduct experimental tests to identify the most performant solutions for the applications.
- Co‑design the package with testability and reliability in mind.
- Perform reliability tests and document results.
Required:
- Two‑year master’s degree or equivalent in photonics, electronics, applied physics, or a related field.
- Strong research skills, critical thinking, presentation ability, teamwork, time management, and an interdisciplinary approach.
Preferred:
- Experience with SiCOI or other photonic devices.
- Experience in laser processing or packaging design.
