The Penn Hills Library, a large multi-phased library located in Penn Hills, Allegheny County, is seeking an Executive Director:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Vision:
    Maintain and implement an existing dynamic strategic plan that aligns with community needs and future trends in library services.
  • Community Engagement:
    Build strong, collaborative relationships with patrons, community groups, local government, schools, and partner organizations.
  • Administrative & Financial Leadership:
    Manage a million-dollar budget, oversee fundraising and grant writing efforts, and ensure the efficient operation of all library facilities and services.
  • Team Development:
    Lead, mentor, and inspire a dedicated staff, fostering a culture of innovation, exceptional customer service, and professional growth.
  • Advocacy & Outreach:
    Serve as the primary advocate for the library, promoting its value, resources, and programs to secure funding and broaden its impact.
  • Collection & Service Innovation:
    Oversee the development of collections and the creation of responsive programs, digital services, and spaces that serve a diverse and evolving community.
Requirements:
  • An MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited program and significant leadership experience including supervisory and administrative positions.
  • A proven track record of strategic planning, financial management, and successful community relationship-building.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead change, embrace technology, and navigate the evolving landscape of 21st-century library services.
  • Exceptional communication, advocacy, and interpersonal skills.
  • A deep commitment to principles of intellectual freedom, diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
