Overview
Social Worker - Through care & Aftercare, City Chambers. Salary: £39,129 - £46,023.
Hours:
36 per week, 52 weeks.
We are looking for an enthusiastic social work practitioner to join our Through care and Aftercare Team, to work with Looked After and formerly Looked After young people aged 16 to 25. We are a multi-disciplinary team undertaking the City of Edinburgh’s ongoing statutory responsibility to offer support, advice and guidance to this cohort of young people, and assisting them to make successful transitions as they leave care and beyond.
Located alongside Through care and Aftercare colleagues, the post holder will work with all young people leaving care; however a large proportion of their role will be to assess need and develop effective support plans for young people who are unaccompanied and seeking asylum.
Responsibilities- Lead age assessments of young people presenting as Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children and support other social work staff in age assessment processes. Training will be provided for this.
- Assess need and develop effective support plans for unaccompanied asylum-seeking young people.
- Work collaboratively with others and act as a resource to colleagues within Children Services, offering guidance and insight to managers and staff regarding immigration legislation as it impacts on Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking young people.
- Support the Through care and Aftercare Team in accordance with the City of Edinburgh Council and Children Services requirements.

- Social Work qualification recognised by the Scottish Social Service Council (SSSC).
- Experience in working collaboratively with others.
- Regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007; the preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check.
- Overseas Criminal Record Check required if an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more outwith the UK in the last 5 years; you will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to satisfactory checks.
