British Sign Language Tutor

Waverley Court

Salary: £33,287 - £39,129 (pro‑rate for part‑time & sessional)

Hours:

36 per week, 39 weeks

Part‑time & Job share will be considered.

This position is part of the Deaf Support Team. The BSL tutor will:

Responsibilities
  • Teach BSL in educational establishments and to families.
  • Provide training, create and deliver courses for parents and staff in BSL.
Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must have experience teaching BSL to adults and working/engaging effectively with families and their deaf children. They must possess fluent BSL skills to SCQF 8 or above, or equivalent.

Application Process

Shortlisted candidates will be required to provide a sample lesson plan as part of a writing assessment before the interview. A reading assessment and BSL skills test will also be required as part of the in‑person interview.

Pre‑Employment Checks

Regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will need to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. If an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more outside the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required.

An unconditional offer and commencement in the post will be subject to satisfactory outcomes of both checks.
