- You will use standard shop procedures in conjunction with instructions and specifications to diagnose and repair vehicles.
- You will operate diagnostic test equipment to troubleshoot vehicles and equipment and determine the source or cause of malfunctions or error codes.
- You will assemble, repair, or replace major components of automotive vehicles (e.g., engines, transmissions, differentials) to keep vehicles in working condition.
- You will use a dwell meter, tachometer, code scanner, or computer software to test conventional and electronic ignitions and starting or charging systems on vehicles.
- You will perform routine diagnostic inspections of vehicle operating systems to determine the type and extent of repair needed.
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

- Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

- This is a Bargaining Unit position.
- You must be able to obtain and maintain a Class "C" Commercial California Driver's License (CDL) with 30 days of employment.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Incumbent must be able to lift and/or carry loads/items up to 50 pounds in weight with mechanical devices or with assistance from other workers.
- You must possess your own basic tools of the trade. Special tools required for the position will be available from the tool room.
- You must possess EPA approved Air Conditioning Certification.
- You must possess 3 Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications (new employees must obtain certifications within one year of date of employment. Equivalent training may be accepted in place of ASE certifications.
