JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for cashiering grocery items, stocking shelves, and filling all food and drink orders in an efficient, healthful, and attractive manner while rendering excellent customer service. This position will train in and perform all functions of Mission Market which includes: order taking, espresso drink and sandwich preparation, making pizzas, POS operation, cash handling, equipment cleaning, and general facility maintenance. The schedule will reflect the market's business needs.

ESSENTIAL

JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Ensure customer satisfaction through prompt, efficient, and friendly service.
  • Promote internal guest service standards with courteous and respectful behavior toward co‑workers and staff.
  • As directed front face, stock, price, and keep clean grocery and snack counters.
  • Stock, price, and keep organized the store’s walk‑in cooler and freezer.
  • Assist with food preparation including sandwich component preparation, cutting and slicing condiments, and replenishing supplies as needed.
  • Efficiently and courteously take orders and enter them into the POS system; handle payment methods appropriately.
  • Prepare foods to order including sandwiches, pizzas, and soups; promptly prepare orders for guests.
  • Dispense beverage and specialty orders including but not limited to soft drinks, espresso drinks, ice cream, and derived items to order.
  • Ensure that food items are handled healthfully and safely by adhering to food handling standards such as "first in first out", or FIFO, at all times.
  • Constantly maintain work and supply areas well organized, sanitary, and safe. Keep the store cases full and looking attractive.
  • Keep market seating areas clean and free from debris, promptly dispose of used products left at tables and wipe down tables, chairs, and condiment counters under established cleaning guidelines.
  • At the beginning and end of each shift, check supply needs and replenish accordingly.
  • Keep the supervisor apprised of operational concerns: menu items, recipes, safety practices, kitchen inventory, supply needs, etc.
  • Report any health standards or safety needs immediately to the supervisor.
  • Operate equipment, tools, and materials safely at all times.
  • Adhere to company policies, regulatory laws, codes, and department procedures.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

ACCESS TO SENSITIVE AREAS
  • POS system, food storage area.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Able to make change, reconcile cash tills and compute discounts.
  • Must possess or obtain a food handlers certificate within 30 days of employment.
  • Effective communication skills - good auditory acuity, able to respond to questions, provide information, and demonstrate interpersonal skills and abilities that promote positive guest service.
  • Need to stand/walk for long periods; performs routine bending and lifting of product up to 20 lbs.; repetitive motion of arms, hands, wrists, and fingers; occasionally lifts and maneuvers up to 50 lbs.
  • Prior work history shall exhibit dependability and responsibility in meeting strict attendance requirements.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is essential. Candidates shall be available to work schedules that include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Work schedules may often change to meet the needs of the business.
  • Exhibits a professional demeanor through appearance and by maintaining a positive attitude toward all employees and guests.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Six (6) months of food and beverage experience.
  • Three (3) months of cash handling experience.
