Job Description

We’re hiring dedicated professionals to provide on-site care within a secure correctional facility medical unit. This role offers flexible scheduling, a manageable patient load, and the opportunity to follow the course of treatment without the pressures of billing or insurance. Your Role and Responsibilities

The Oregon Department of Corrections (ODOC) seeks Registered Nurses with a passion for caring for marginalized and underserved incarcerated individuals. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Direct Patient Care: conduct patient assessment, nursing diagnosis, care planning, medication administration, laboratory/medical procedures, and treatment in accordance with ODOC policies, procedures, protocols, provider orders, and evidence-based standards of care.
  • Coordination of Care: coordinate on-site and community-based services to ensure optimal patient health outcomes.
  • Communication: provide comprehensive patient education; serve as a resource to non-medical staff and advocate for timely patient care needs within the correctional setting.
  • Documentation: maintain accurate, legible, and complete records of patient care, including requests for medical attention, objective data, treatment provided, outcomes, and patient education.
  • Administrative: coordinate nursing care with other departments; supervise unit operations in the absence of management; monitor supplies and ensure secure storage of supplies, including narcotics and needles.

Minimum Qualifications

Possess a valid Oregon Registered Professional Nurse license at the time of appointment. Preference given to candidates with an unencumbered license. The agency may require training or experience in a specialized area of nursing at the time of recruitment.
