Barista

SCOPE

Reporting to the Restaurant Manager, the Barista is responsible serving food and beverages to guests in the assigned outlet, providing a courteous, professional, efficient and flexible service consistent with the standards of the hotel and in line with Kempinski’s DNA values in order to encourage sales and maximize guest satisfaction.

• Barista should be able to provide The Perfect Cup of Coffee as well as Perfect Cappuccinos and Lattes and other Coffee Drink Recipes
• Barista Espresso Machine Skills - A Barista will generally learn the difference between the various types of espresso machines which are used to provide the proper pressure for extraction by forcing hot water at high pressure through tamped and roasted, ground coffee.
• In addition, a great Barista is a “people person” who wants to give customers a great coffee experience so they come back again and again.
• A Barista often works the whole front counter area of the coffee shop and may participate in serving food items as well as various coffee drinks, tea and other beverages.
• A Barista is a multi-task expert, taking care of numerous outlet coffee program, training in the proper order with the goal of providing supreme customer service and exceptional specialty coffee drinks.

• Supports food & beverage outlets by preparing specialty coffee menus themed to the operation.
• Creates a positive team atmosphere among Team Members.
• Provides feedback, on‑job training and coaching to the Team regularly.
• Take order, prepare and serve food and beverages to customers
• Answer guest questions and handle guest requests in a polite and efficient manner.
• Connecting with customers to build a loyal customer base
• Inventory monitoring and waste management and reduction
• Cashiering duties
• Do routine check, cleaning and maintain cleanliness of workstation.
• Follow food and beverage safety and hygiene policies and procedures.

• Warm, pleasant, friendly and confident, with good interpersonal skills.
• Possess good command of English
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a specialty coffee shop or hospitality environment with a focus on coffee and beverage execution.
• Knowledge of Health and Safety rules and procedures
• Creative thinker with an eye for flavour balance and drink innovation.
• Passionate about specialty coffee, beverage culture, and hospitality excellence.
• Strong technical knowledge of espresso machines, grinders, brew methods (V60, French press, Aeropress, batch brew), milk chemistry, and sensory evaluation.
• Hands‑on experience with cold brew systems, pre‑batching techniques, matcha preparation, and beverage R&D.
• Understanding of beverage scaling, shelf life, HACCP practices, and batch consistency control.
• Ability to calibrate grinders and adjust brew ratios, TDS, and extraction times.
• Demonstrated ability to multi‑task and manage high‑volume beverage production with accuracy and speed.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills with a team‑first mindset.
• Barista certifications (SCA Barista Skills, Latte Art, Brewing Foundation/Intermediate) are a strong advantage.
