Position: Employment Consultant - Appendix D/Temporary Assignment (2 positions available: 6-months )
* Discuss service needs of client by establishing a collaborative relationship.
* Utilize the common assessment tool to determine appropriate stream or level of
* service required (client segmentation).
* Together with client, develop a mutually agreed upon Employment Action Plan
* with a realistic employment goal and sub-goals. Determine any existing or
* potential barriers which may affect achieving that goal, or any life-stabilization
* needs which must be addressed prior to effectively seeking employment.
* Establish a plan to overcome these barriers and progressive actions required to
* reach employment goal.
* Advise, guide, and assist client through the implementation of each stage in the
* Employment Action Plan.
* Prepare clients for the workplace by assisting in the development of
* resume/cover letter, interview skills and appropriate job search techniques.
* Determine if client is eligible and in need of job seeker financial supports.
* Refer clients to suitable job vacancies.
* Provide coaching, advising, and mentoring, as needed, to assist client in job
* retention.
* Work collaboratively with referring community partners in assisting client
* towards successful job placement and retention.
* Refer to community services or other government programs if required, follow
- * up and monitor progress.
* Case manages each client by maintaining contact until job attainment. Continue
* to support and monitor at prescribed intervals for a 12 month period, providing
* job retention support as needed throughout this monitoring phase and obtaining
* proof of employment.
* Reference and apply program guidelines in assisting unemployed clients to
* return to work.
* Outreach to employers to establish positive relationships and identify job
* vacancies; create opportunities for unemployed clients.
* Create opportunities for job seekers and influence employers to consider
* offering employment to registered clients
* Match employer needs with registered clients meeting the skills and abilities
* required. Refer client in manner requested by employer.
* Assist employers with recruitment, interviews, and selection, as requested.
* Assess the employer’s workplace capacity to provide a positive, safe, training and work experience.
* Ensure employers meet all eligibility criteria as per funder guidelines. § Discuss financial incentives and complete all required documentation.
* Develop an employment support plan, which includes coaching and mentoring (as appropriate) to continue throughout the first twelve months of client employment.
* Identify the need for additional supports from other community service professionals or agencies.
* Monitor client progress in placement, provide on-going support and intervention, as required.
* Minimum two (2) year Diploma or Graduate Certificate in Employment/Career Counselling, Social Work or Human Resources;
** Equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience may be accepted in place of formal education;
*** Minimum of five (5) years previous experience in employment advisement or career development guidance to a diverse client group including social assistance recipients or individuals with disabilities.
