Teaching Personnel is currently recruiting a resilient, empathetic, and proactive Behaviour Support Mentor to work within a secondary school Alternative Provision unit in Pembrokeshire.

This specialist provision supports pupils who require a more structured, personalised learning environment than mainstream education. The unit operates independently from the main school building and focuses on re‑engaging students with education while supporting their social, emotional and behavioural development.

About the Alternative Provision

The unit is a specialist setting designed to meet the social, emotional and behavioural needs of secondary‑aged pupils. Students attend on individualised timetables tailored to their specific needs, with a strong focus on:

  • Building positive relationships
  • Developing emotional regulation
  • Improving behaviour and engagement
  • Reintegrating students into education

Alongside core academic subjects, pupils participate in a range of vocational and practical learning opportunities, including:

  • Woodwork
  • Welding
  • Hair & Beauty
  • Hands‑on vocational workshops
  • Personal development and wellbeing sessions

The provision offers a nurturing yet structured environment, where consistency, patience and clear boundaries are essential for student success.

The Role:

Behaviour Support Mentor

As a Behaviour Support Mentor, you will play a key role in supporting pupils with social, emotional and behavioural needs, helping them develop confidence, resilience and positive engagement with learning.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Building positive and professional relationships with pupils
  • Providing 1:1 and small group behaviour support
  • Supporting students to develop emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
  • Assisting staff with academic and vocational learning activities
  • Supporting pupils during practical workshops and personal development sessions
  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams and support staff
  • Acting as a positive role model and mentor for vulnerable learners
Ideal Candidate
  • Experience working with young people with behavioural, social or additional learning needs
  • Strong behaviour management and de‑escalation skills
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach
  • The ability to build trust and rapport quickly
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable or disengaged learners
  • Experience in education, youth work, mentoring, coaching or support work (desirable)
  • Behaviour mentoring
  • Teaching assistance
  • Youth work
  • Care or support work
  • Psychology or education graduates
Requirements
  • Enhanced Child Workforce DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) or willingness to register
  • Two years of references covering the last 24 months
  • The right to work in the UK
