Mechanical Assembler Job Description - Job Summary

Skilled in assembling complex mechanical systems and components with a strong emphasis on mechanical aptitude. Requires proficiency in using precision hand and power tools (wrenches, torque drivers, micrometers, etc.) to assemble, align, and test mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electro‑mechanical systems. Candidates must demonstrate advanced problem‑solving skills and hands‑on experience in mechanical assembly, repair and troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret and follow detailed technical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and work instructions to assemble machinery, equipment, and subassemblies with high precision.
  • Perform complex fitting, alignment, and fastening of mechanical components using tools such as torque wrenches, calipers, vises, and pneumatic tools to ensure accurate assembly.
  • Conduct functional testing and troubleshooting of assembled systems to verify performance, diagnose mechanical issues, and make necessary adjustments.
  • Handle, lift, and position heavy components (up to 50 pounds or more) using hoists, cranes, or manual methods, ensuring safe and efficient material handling.
  • Operate machinery to test functionality, including control levers, hydraulic systems, and precision instruments, while evaluating performance against specifications.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to safety protocols, using appropriate PPE, and identifying potential hazards in the assembly process.
  • Contribute to 5S workplace organization initiatives by maintaining a clean, organized workspace and proposing process improvements to enhance efficiency.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and engineers to ensure high‑quality assembly outcomes and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Meet or exceed expectations for productivity, quality, attendance, and safety while continuously improving mechanical skills and knowledge.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Environment
  • Manufacturing plant conditions (indoors, variable temperature, humidity, noise, and exposure to industrial materials such as oils, grease, and solvents).
  • Physical demands include lifting, pushing, pulling, and positioning items weighing up to 50 pounds or more.
  • Potential hazards include powered vehicles, pedestrian traffic, sharp tools, moving machinery, compressed air, and hydraulic systems.
  • Workdays may extend up to 10 hours with overtime as required.
Education and/or Experience
  • High school diploma or GED; equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
  • Minimum of 6 months to 1 year of hands‑on mechanical assembly, repair, or maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
Job Qualifications Required
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude through prior experience in mechanical assembly, repair, or maintenance, with proficiency in using precision tools (e.g., torque wrenches, micrometers, dial indicators).
  • Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics accurately.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills to diagnose and resolve mechanical issues during assembly or testing.
  • Basic math and measurement skills, including the ability to use tape measures, calipers, and perform calculations involving fractions, percentages, and tolerances.
  • Proven ability to work independently and in a team, with a strong work ethic, reliable attendance, and focus on quality and safety.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
Preferred
  • Advanced experience in mechanical assembly, including hydraulic, pneumatic, or electro‑mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles or 5S methodologies.
  • Ability to write basic reports and maintain detailed assembly records.
  • Vocational training or certification in mechanical technology, machining, or a related field.
