Overview
A growing organization is seeking a Payroll Accountant to support accurate and timely payroll processing and payroll-related financial reporting. This role ensures compliance with regulations, maintains detailed payroll records, reconciles accounts, resolves discrepancies, and assists with audits and payroll system improvements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and able to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
Process payroll for employees in accordance with established deadlines
Maintain and update employee payroll records, including earnings, deductions, benefits, and tax information
Reconcile payroll-related accounts and investigate discrepancies to ensure accuracy in the general ledger
Respond to payroll inquiries from employees and departments, providing clear and timely information
Assist with internal and external audits by preparing payroll reports and supporting documentation
Support year-end payroll processes, including tax reporting and system balancing
Participate in payroll system upgrades, testing, and process improvement initiatives
Perform related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong understanding of accounting principles and payroll procedures
Proficiency with computerized payroll systems and knowledge of payroll laws/regulations (FLSA, tax withholding, wage garnishments)
Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality of payroll and employee information
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and collaborate across departments
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in payroll, accounting, or financial record-keeping
Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the role are considered
