Payroll Accountant

Overview
A growing organization is seeking a Payroll Accountant to support accurate and timely payroll processing and payroll-related financial reporting. This role ensures compliance with regulations, maintains detailed payroll records, reconciles accounts, resolves discrepancies, and assists with audits and payroll system improvements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and able to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process payroll for employees in accordance with established deadlines

  • Maintain and update employee payroll records, including earnings, deductions, benefits, and tax information

  • Reconcile payroll-related accounts and investigate discrepancies to ensure accuracy in the general ledger

  • Respond to payroll inquiries from employees and departments, providing clear and timely information

  • Assist with internal and external audits by preparing payroll reports and supporting documentation

  • Support year-end payroll processes, including tax reporting and system balancing

  • Participate in payroll system upgrades, testing, and process improvement initiatives

  • Perform related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and payroll procedures

  • Proficiency with computerized payroll systems and knowledge of payroll laws/regulations (FLSA, tax withholding, wage garnishments)

  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of payroll and employee information

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and collaborate across departments

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in payroll, accounting, or financial record-keeping

  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the role are considered
