Job Summary

Two (2) Residential Faculty positions begin in August 2026. The role teaches a 5/5 load of First‑Year Composition courses (ENG 101/102) with at least two in‑person classes each semester, complemented by hybrid and online courses. The faculty member will work with colleagues, administrators, staff, and the broader community to support student success and advance institutional goals.

Essential Functions
  • Teach a 5/5 load of English Composition with at least two in‑person classes and a combination of hybrid and online courses each semester based on student need.
  • Adhere to the Standards of Residency, including (30) hours of professional responsibilities per week, meeting all scheduled classes, providing comprehensive course preparation and assessment, and offering a minimum of five (5) scheduled student support hours for mentoring and advising.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on general education assessment, strategic planning, program review, and creative problem‑solving within the division, college, and district—participating in campus and/or district initiatives, committees, and task forces.
  • Contribute to meaningful student engagement and success by understanding barriers faced by underprepared populations.
  • Use instructional technologies across multiple modalities and incorporate integrated learning techniques and high‑impact practices.
  • Provide mentorship/leadership with adjunct and dual enrollment faculty and conduct observations or supervisory duties as needed.
  • Engage in continuous professional development, integrating new developments in English Education and related fields.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or higher in the teaching field, or
  • Master’s degree or higher in any field with 18 graduate credit hours in the teaching field.
Desired Qualifications
  • Master’s or higher in English, Composition/Rhetoric, Writing Studies, English Education, Literature, Ethnic Studies, Technical Communication, Literacy Studies, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching first‑year composition and possibly other college‑level or developmental writing courses.
  • Evidence of effective application of current theories and practices in first‑year composition, writing studies, and 21st‑century literacies.
  • Evidence of effective teaching in a variety of modalities.
  • Evidence of effective assessment of student writing and learning outcomes, including general education and program learning outcomes.
  • Experience developing curriculum and adapting classroom practices for underprepared and first‑generation populations, especially those in Arizona.
  • Evidence of ability to implement integrative learning and/or interdisciplinary approaches to enhance student engagement and success.
  • Incorporation of AAC&U High‑Impact Practices and other district initiatives, such as writing‑intensive courses, learning communities, service learning, ePortfolios, writing in the disciplines, experiential learning, and related professional development.
