Location: Old Kent Road
We are seeking an experienced Freelance Logistics Manager to lead and manage all site logistics operations on a large, complex construction scheme in South East London. The successful candidate will have a proven track record managing logistics on major projects, ensuring safe, efficient movement of labour, materials, and plant while maintaining programme and compliance requirements.
You will work closely with the Project Manager, Site Managers, subcontractors, and supply chain to deliver a well-coordinated logistics strategy throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop, implement, and manage the site logistics strategy and logistics management plan.
* Control all site access, traffic management, deliveries, and material handling in line with local authority and site constraints.
* Manage booking systems for deliveries and waste removal, ensuring minimal disruption and maximum efficiency.
* Coordinate crane lifts, hoists, loading bays, storage areas, and welfare facilities.
* Maintain safe pedestrian and vehicle segregation at all times.
* Ensure compliance with H&S regulations, CDM requirements, and site-specific RAMS.
* Liaise with neighbours, local stakeholders, and council where required regarding logistics impacts.
* Monitor and report on logistics performance, congestion, delays, and continuous improvement.
* Supervise logistics operatives, banksmen, gatemen, and traffic marshals.
* Ensure housekeeping standards are maintained across site.
* Manage waste strategy and recycling targets.
* Support site setup, phasing changes, and demobilisation as required.
Required Experience & Skills
* Proven experience as a Logistics Manager on large-scale construction projects (major residential, mixed-use, infrastructure, or commercial schemes).
* Strong knowledge of construction logistics planning, traffic management, and material flow optimisation.
* Experience working on constrained urban sites is essential.
* Excellent organisational, coordination, and communication skills.
* Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and subcontractors.
* Strong understanding of health & safety legislation and best practice.
* Ability to problem-solve and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
* Competent with delivery management systems and site reporting tools.
Certifications (Essential / Preferred)
* SMSTS or SSSTS
* CSCS (Black / Gold preferred)
* First Aid at Work
* Temporary Works Awareness (preferred)
* Traffic Marshal / Banksman (beneficial)
