Overview
Under general supervision, delivers care to patients utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation, in accordance with established protocol and / or as ordered by the emergency room physician. Works in cooperative effort with physician and other members of clinical staff to ensure effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes. Effectively interact with patient and significant others, while maintaining the standard of professional nursing.
Provides care for patients presenting with various types of illnesses and/or injuries requiring emergency attention and must be able to recognize and effectively treat life-threatening conditions.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
FACILITY OPERATIONS
Clinical summary and direct nursing responsibilities include applying scientific nursing principles to provide direct, individualized care and; collecting information regarding chief complaint and current symptoms, detailed patient history, and documenting findings in the patient medical record. Reports findings to the healthcare provider. Coordinates with health care team to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans. Performs triage and assessments considering physical and psychosocial elements.
Manages basic life support needs and stabilizes patients until the attending physician is available, based upon nursing standards and protocol. Initiates corrective action based on monitoring equipment information showing adverse symptomatology. Documents nursing care in the patient medical record. Works directly under physicians, assisting during exams, procedures, diagnostic testing and treatments. Prepares and administers medications as ordered by the physician (oral, subcutaneous, intravenous/infusion, intramuscular) and records administration and related data in the medical record;
reports adverse reactions per policy. Provides IV infusion/therapy, performs 12-lead EKG, venipuncture and IV initiation, blood draws, cardiac and pulse oximetery monitoring, applies oxygen, and administers nebulized treatments. Assists physician with management of critical patients and with procedures including laceration repair, moderate sedation procedures, I&D, cardiac arrest, intubation, chest tube insertion, foreign body removal, live birth or spontaneous abortion and related events;
records times of death and birth and assists in reporting death in the ER as needed. Keeps accurate records of procedures, including sedation flow sheets and CPR/Code Blue flow sheets; maintains and makes appropriate entries in clinical logs and records as required by facility policy. Cleans and bandages wounds, applies splints. Reviews discharge instructions with patients; provides patient education on wound care, crutch training, use of nebulizers or inhalers and other training as needed.
Reviews discharge instructions with patient, takes vital signs prior to discharge to ensure stability, and records results. Provides basic, bedside nursing care. Assists administration in maintaining supplies and equipment. Reports suspected abuse to appropriate agencies. Initiates patient education plans as prescribed by physicians, teaching patients and significant others how to manage illness/injury and providing referrals for follow‑up care. Demonstrates professionalism while handling multiple urgent tasks.
Records all care information concisely, accurately, and completely in the appropriate forms. Performs other position-related duties as assigned. Reports safety violations, work injuries, or hazards to administration. Maintains narcotics counts at shift changes in the presence of a qualified professional. Logs medication inventory and maintains pharmacy security during shift. Provides proper shift change communication and remains on shift until properly relieved.
Completes chart nursing documentation in accordance with policy; documentation must be legible and in English. Performs quality assurance reviews of charts as designated by administration. Maintains required certifications and licenses as required by applicable rules and facility policy.…
