Job Summary

Responsible for providing comprehensive patient care congruent with role and approved population foci (Family/Individual across lifespan, Adult/Gerontology, Neonatal, Pediatrics, Women’s Health/Gender Related, Psychiatric Mental Health) through systemic assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, and follow up affecting direct patient care. Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient served, including principles of growth and development across life cycles.

Specific age groups served:
Neonate, Infant, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, Adult/Geriatric.

Minimum Qualifications – Nurse Practitioner / Advanced Practice Nurse
  • Graduate of a Nurse Practitioner program approved by the State of Texas and Master's required.
  • May encompass the following specialties: CRNA, CNM, CNS, CNP.
  • Licensed to practice professional nursing by the State of Texas.
  • Licensure by the State of Texas APRN and eligibility for full prescriptive authority by the State of Texas.
  • Certified by a recognized national certification by the State Board of Texas in area of population foci and/or additional specialty recognition beyond the APRN.
  • Eligibility for DEA licensure.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Certification or Advanced Cardiac Life Certification.
Minimum Qualifications – Physician Assistant
  • Graduate of a nationally accredited Physician Assistant program, master’s strongly preferred.
  • Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, Inc.
  • Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners.
  • Eligibility for DEA licensure.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Certification or Advanced Cardiac Life Certification.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills
  • One (1) year of clinical experience preferred in area of intended practice.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Provides health promotion, assessment, diagnosis, and management of patient problems, including pharmacologic and non‑pharmacologic interventions across the health‑wellness‑illness continuum as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Maintains prescriptive authority under physician delegation and complies with regulations.
  • Practices within approved protocols, guidelines, evidence‑based medicine, and clinical pathways.
  • Coordinates transitions between inpatient/outpatient settings.
  • Directs and evaluates throughput, and serves as triage or backup assistance when required.
  • Floats to multiple facilities and/or takes call (first call).
  • Provides accurate billing, coding and documentation; completes medical records and submits charges timely.
  • Collaborates with physicians or other providers to ensure overall unit performance.
  • Obtains medical histories, performs physical examinations, reviews and orders diagnostic tests, and formulates patient treatment plans.
  • Performs procedures within legal scope: incision and drainage, pelvic exams, lesion removal/destruction, suturing, casting/splinting.
  • Works autonomously, updates clinical guidelines and protocols, and collaborates in research and teaching projects.
  • Uses interpersonal communication to educate patients/families and participates in quality improvement activities.
  • Ensures safe care for patients, staff and visitors; follows Memorial Hermann policies and budgetary limits.
  • Promotes professional growth through mandatory and continuing education; supports department goals and mentors less experienced staff.
