Overview
The Radiology Technologist operates radiographic equipment to produce radiographs of the body for diagnostic purposes, as directed by the physician in accordance with the radiologist's accepted protocol. The technologist positions the patient and examination table to obtain optimum views of the specified area, and performs radiation safety techniques with the ALARA principle in mind, using beam-restrictive devices and patient shielding to maximize protection to patients and staff.
Responsibilities- Operate radiographic equipment to produce radiographs of the body for diagnostic purposes, as directed by the physician in accordance with the radiologist protocol.
- Position the patient and examination table to obtain optimum views of the specified area of the body requested by the physician.
- Practice radiation safety techniques with ALARA principles, using beam-restrictive devices and patient shielding, and knowledge of applicable exposure factors.
- Operate CT (Computed Tomography) equipment to produce CT scans for diagnostic purposes, as directed by the physician in accordance with the radiologist protocol.
- Administer and obtain consent for contrast (IV and oral) and monitor for possible reactions or side effects.
- Complete appropriate paperwork and ensure proper documentation in the patient’s chart; support patient safety and satisfaction while acquiring diagnostically acceptable exams.
- Provide additional patient care duties as needed, including starting IVs, drawing blood, operating lab testing equipment, running patient samples, changing beds, cleaning rooms, and stocking linens.
- Graduate of an accredited approved school of Radiologic Technology
- At least 2 years of radiologic/imaging experience and CT experience
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information one-on-one and in small groups to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Basic computer skills
- Current State Licensure (Required)
- Current BCLS Certification (Required)
- Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (Preferred)
