The Supplemental Physical Therapist assesses patients, develops and initiates treatment plans based on evaluation results. Evaluation may include measurements of neuromuscular and skeletal functions. The incumbent documents findings, progress, and provides instruction to patients and caregivers. The therapist will provide recommendations, assist physical therapists and management with program development, and serve as a resource and mentor while overseeing training of assistants, students, interns, and rehabilitation technicians.
Job DescriptionPRN coverage needed for Saturdays. Training/orientation will be held during the week.
Minimum Qualifications- Education: Bachelors or graduate degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited university‑based program
- Licenses/Certifications: Current license to practice Physical Therapy by Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners or by the Physical Therapy Compact Commission;
Current Certification in Basic Life Support
A physical therapist practicing direct access:
- Education: Doctoral degree with a residency or fellowship program, or licensed therapist with 30 hours of continuing competence activities in differential diagnosis
- Licenses/Certifications: Current license to practice Physical Therapy by Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners or by the Physical Therapy Compact Commission
Experience / Knowledge /
Skills:
- One (1) year of experience preferred
- Ability and willingness to mentor/train staff or supervise clinical interns/students
- Clinical leadership and expertise for specific patient types or groups, or enhancement of existing clinical programs
- Active role as a clinical resource for hospital or system committees, task forces, or study groups
- Designs and implements staff development programs to enhance clinical competencies
- Physical strength: occasional/frequent lifting of up to 75/100 pounds, carrying up to 30 pounds, with frequent walking, stooping, and squatting
- Fine hand dexterity, eye‑hand coordination, oral and written communication skills
- Visual ability to monitor instruments, computers, and equipment; recognize alphanumeric characters, distinguish colors, and observe physical characteristics
- Commitment to scheduled shifts with flexibility in scheduling and relocation within patient care areas
- Assumes responsibility in patient care, performing comprehensive evaluations with physician referral
- Accurately interprets evaluation findings and creates written plans of care with clear goals
- Implements comprehensive therapy programs and advanced treatments, demonstrating competency in advanced skills
- Oversees care performed by assistants and rehabilitation technicians, monitoring progress and adjusting goals as needed
- Motivates and instructs patients/caregivers using appropriate methods
- Communicates effectively with patients, caregivers, and professional colleagues, including physicians and insurance representatives
- Documents in the medical record promptly and accurately; fulfills other documentation duties efficiently
- Serves as a clinical resource to staff, hospital, and system committees or task forces; provides leadership in departmental study groups
- Demonstrates increasing expertise in treatment of specific patient populations
- Acts as clinical instructor to PT and PTA interns
- Assists in program development within the department and supports clinical competencies
- Supervises support staff as needed
- Participates in organized community service/functions as a representative of the profession
- Presents relevant topics at clinic meetings, grand rounds, conferences, and university settings
- Ensures safe care for patients, staff, and visitors while adhering to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary parameters
- Promotes professional growth by meeting mandatory and continuing education requirements and supporting department goals
- Models Memorial Hermann’s service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized, and efficient experiences
