Development Technician – City of Pearland, Texas

Join the City of Pearland Community Development Services division as a full‑time Development Technician and help improve daily operations for residents and visitors.

Compensation & Benefits

Hourly salary: $21.83 – $22.71 per hour (based on experience). Responsibilities
  • Review development applications and compare applicant information to city guidelines and policies.
  • Enter responses, data, and approval information into the system.
  • Coordinate and facilitate all development applications.
  • Serve customers at the front counter with general development questions and answer permit and application inquiries.
  • Answer phone calls regarding general development questions.
  • Communicate and coordinate development with developers and other city departments such as Building Permits, Engineering, Planning, Inspectors, and Fire Marshal.
  • Assist in improving processes and services.
  • Coordinate plan review of assigned building permits; log new permits; upload digital plans; assign needed reviews; verify applicant has paid required review fees.
  • Monitor review times for all commercial and residential plan submissions and follow up with applicable examiners.
  • Maintain and update the plan review log and ensure all reviews are completed timely.
  • Create permit review reports and facilitate parts of biweekly DRC meetings.
  • Communicate with developers, architects, engineers, contractors, or other city staff and the public via mail, email, phone, or in person.
  • Assist with issue resolution between consultants and customers by scheduling and facilitating meetings as needed.
  • Reply to emails daily from colleagues and/or applicants regarding permit questions, status, or other permit related questions.
  • Evaluate design, plan review, and permit fees or any other associated fees.
  • Schedule meetings, coordinate and facilitate commercial permit review, new residential construction, pre‑development, and consultations.
  • Provide weekly reports for all assigned permits in review; verify all needed inspections are complete once the permit is approved; provide customers with certificate of completion or certificate of occupancy.
  • Process and follow up on Temporary Certificates of Occupancy.
  • Perform related work as assigned.
Qualifications

Qualified candidates will have strong customer service skills, ability to work in a fast‑paced environment, and a basic understanding of building and development regulations. Experience with permit and plan review systems is preferred.
