Treatment Plant Operator II – Surface Water

$24.07 – $26.05 per hour (based on qualifications). The city covers all premiums for dental, long‑term disability, life insurance, and the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and their dependents. A retirement plan through the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) includes a 2:1 employer match, and additional benefits such as access to the city’s recreation fitness center, employee assistance program, educational assistance, 11 paid holidays, paid vacation, sick leave, and an active wellness program.

Hiring incentives by license grade

  • Grade C – $2,500
  • Grade B – $3,500

A Day in the Life

This position serves as a team leader for SWTP Operator I staff, providing instruction and assistance in monitoring pump stations, chemical feed systems, and all other primary process areas.

The Operator II assures routine calibration of continuous monitoring instruments used for compliance reporting; adjusts chemical metering pumps; compiles data for monthly reports; determines process chemical dose and flow adjustments; develops and implements corrective procedures regarding water quality and performs follow‑ups. The role also coordinates budget needs with PCS.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • High school graduation or GED plus specialized courses or training in the water industry or related field; preferences include college courses or certificates in environmental science, microbiology, or chemistry.
  • Three (3) years of experience in surface water treatment plants or closely related field.
  • Experience with membrane filters is preferred.
Special Certifications and Licenses
  • Valid Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Class C Surface Water Operator license.
  • Texas Class “C” Driver’s License.

Salary
: $24.07 – $26.05 per hour
