CITY OF PEARLAND SUMMER CAMP JOB OPPORTUNITIES – Part-Time Nature Education Instructor. The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a Part-Time Nature Education Instructor to lead and teach the lessons and activities of the day-to-day operations of summer camp programs at the Delores Fenwick Nature Center (Camp Pelican).

The Part-Time Nature Education Instructor earns a competitive salary of $16.29–$17.63/hour, based on qualifications. We also offer access to the city's recreation fitness center and an employee assistance program. Applicants should be comfortable working outdoors and with children.
Responsibilities- Be a role model to campers and staff in attitude and behavior.
- Utilize knowledge of biology, nature, and environmental science to deliver curriculum; teach lessons and activities and ensure campers meet camp goals and learning materials.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude and willingness to work with children in a camp atmosphere.
- Exercise effective communication with parents and staff.
- Manage the camp classroom, ensuring lesson plans, activities, materials, and daily schedules are prepared and implemented to meet camp outcomes and campers’ abilities.
- Maintain attendance records and daily rosters; check campers in and out of camp daily.
- Manage classroom environment, including camper behavior and health/wellbeing.
- Lead and guide Camp Counselors during camp program activities.
- Ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow safety and educational procedures during camp programs.
- Communicate daily happenings with parents during camper check-in and check-out, including behavior issues, first aid incidents, reminders, and other information.
- Enforce camp rules and behavior policies; communicate camper issues with supervisors and parents.
- Plan and implement daily activity schedules from provided materials.
- Arrange, set up, and/or break down equipment, supplies, chairs, and tables for scheduled games and programs.
- Contribute to verbal and written evaluations and communications as requested.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
:
- Requires some college (at least 20 hours), with field of study in Education or the Natural Sciences preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience dealing with children ages 6–14 in a supervisory role such as teacher, counselor, or camp director (preferred).
- Previous teaching/instructing experience strongly recommended.
- Requires some experience or knowledge of science relating to biology, environmental science, or nature education.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
- Valid, Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
- Current certification in First Aid and CPR, or the ability to obtain within two (2) months of hire date.
