Overview

The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a Part-Time Summer Camp Counselor to assist with camper engagement and various aspects of the day-to-day operations of our summer camp programs. The position supports camper supervision, positive attitudes, and camper engagement while working in the heart of camp activities.

The Part-Time Summer Camp Counselor earns a competitive salary of $13.40 - $14.51/hour
, based on qualifications. We also offer access to the city"s recreation fitness center and employee assistance program.

Job Details

Camp Dates: June 1 - August 7

Hours: Monday - Friday from approximately 7:45 am to 5:30 pm

Responsibilities
  • Job Summary
    :
    Counselors are the primary caregivers for each camper. The Counselor is responsible for planning, teaching, coordinating, and carrying out activities and guiding campers in their personal growth and daily living skills.
  • Regular and timely attendance at work.
  • Maintain a positive atmosphere for children through camp activities.
  • Lead or assist with the teaching of activities.
  • Actively participate in all program areas as assigned.
  • Be a role model to campers and staff in attitude and behavior.
  • Represent the camp when interacting with parents or community members.
  • Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.
  • Set a good example to campers regarding camp procedures and practices including sanitation, schedule, and sportsmanship.
  • Assist in directing, supervising, and organizing campers within activities and throughout the camp to meet intended camper outcomes.
  • Conduct outdoor recreation activities and crafts as scheduled.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff.
  • Be aware of and implement safety guidelines.
  • Participate in developing and implementing program activities aligned with mission and outcomes.
  • Provide supervision for campers at all times.
  • Provide supervision for campers during transport to and from camp or during scheduled field trips.
  • Attend pre-camp training and staff meetings as scheduled.
Additional Duties
  • Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure proper care and maintenance; report repairs promptly to supervisor.
  • Provide information to campers and parents regarding programs, activities, and events.
  • Maintain attendance records.
  • Arrange equipment, supplies, chairs, and tables for scheduled games and programs.
  • Demonstrate proper methods of equipment storage and cleaning to safeguard facilities and equipment.
  • Contribute to verbal and written evaluations and communications as requested.
  • Contribute to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED preferred; or a minimum of one summer of experience in a day camp or playground setting preferred.
  • Experience working with children preferred.
Special Certifications and Licenses
  • Valid Class C Texas Driver's License.
  • Current certification in First Aid and CPR, or the ability to obtain within two months of hire date.
