The Supply Planner with Senior Buyer responsibilities plays a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless flow of materials and inventory across the supply chain. This dual-function role encompasses planning and procurement activities, combining strategic supply planning with tactical purchasing to optimize inventory levels, meet production schedules, and drive cost efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:Supply Planning:
- Develop and maintain detailed supply plans to meet demand forecasts, ensuring inventory levels are optimized to minimize costs and avoid stockouts or overstock situations.
- Collaborate with production, demand planning, and logistics teams to align supply plans with overall business objectives.
- Monitor and adjust supply plans based on fluctuations in demand, lead times, and production changes.
- Generate reports on inventory performance, such as Days of Inventory on Hand (DOH), forecast accuracy, and service levels.
- Source, negotiate, and manage supplier contracts, ensuring cost-effective procurement while maintaining quality and delivery standards.
- Identify and evaluate new suppliers, managing vendor relationships to ensure reliability and adherence to company standards.
- Analyze market trends, raw material prices, and industry developments to make informed purchasing decisions.
- Process purchase orders and manage order confirmations, ensuring timely delivery and addressing discrepancies promptly.
- Oversee stock replenishment, reordering, and inventory turnover to meet production requirements.
- Coordinate with warehouse and logistics teams to ensure efficient storage and distribution of materials.
- Monitor inventory health and implement strategies to reduce waste or obsolescence.
- Lead cross-functional meetings with teams from operations, sales, and finance to review supply chain performance and resolve bottlenecks.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement supply chain best practices to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
- Provide mentorship and training to junior team members in procurement and supply planning processes.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- APICS or equivalent supply chain certification (preferred).
- 5+ years in supply chain planning, procurement, or related roles.
- Demonstrated expertise in supplier negotiation and contract management.
- Experience in managing complex supply chains with multiple SKUs and suppliers.
- Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to work with large datasets.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other analytical tools.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing and inventory management principles.
- Detail-oriented with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to balance long-term goals and day-to-day operations.
- Collaborative team player capable of working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Primarily office-based with occasional visits to supplier locations or production sites.
- May require travel for supplier meetings or industry events (up to 10%).
