Hardware Engineering Manager – Electronics Research and DevelopmentRelocation assistance may be available for qualified talent.
In this role you will lead the Hardware Design team, working closely with Software Development and Test and Integration teams, on current and next generation products and systems. Application areas will include both residential and industrial power systems which communicate through standard IoT interfaces such as wi‑fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, and ethernet for control and monitoring. Systems will encompass advanced circuit protection techniques, advanced fault detection techniques, AC and DC power distribution, and other “smart home” features in development.
Responsibilities- Lead design and development of embedded microcontroller‑based products and systems for power applications including circuit protection, monitoring, and control for both residential and industrial applications.
- Work with software development and test teams, both onshore and offshore, on complete product solutions.
- Integrate these products into the next‑generation systems for residential and industrial power applications.
- Work with Product Management to define and specify next‑generation features and functions as these systems evolve.
- Prioritize projects with input from engineering management, product management, and manufacturing.
- Support customer‑facing teams, such as Application Engineering and Customer Engineering, with product and technical expertise as needed.
- Ensure the team follows appropriate design practices, necessary PLM process steps, and meets industry and regulatory requirements including UL Standards, the National Electrical Code, IEEE Standards, ANSI Standards, Canadian Standards Association, NEMA Standards, and utility requirements.
- Basic Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or physics, plus 10 years industry experience. An advanced degree (Master’s / PhD) can be substituted for industry experience.
- 10+ years of experience in the following areas:
- Leading a team of technical professionals / Ability to motivate and engage others to deliver results and to grow a team.
- Working with electronics products produced in high volume (1 M+ per year).
- Working with offshore development and manufacturing teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Detail oriented, analytical thinker combined with strong organizational skills.
- Team‑oriented personality who can support multiple projects simultaneously from multiple product development teams.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the business to resolve issues.
- 5+ Years of experience in the following areas:
- Power engineering and analog circuit design.
- Developing hardware for embedded applications.
- Strong knowledge of UL style electrical distribution products and solutions.
- Knowledge of UL standards such as UL 489, 489i, 943, 1699, and 61010.
- Travel required will be less than 25%.
- Preferred
Skills:- Experience working in an Agile development environment.
- Experience with JIRA is a plus.
