Overview

Position Title: Procurement Engineer

Location: Peachtree Corners, GA / Hingham, MA

Siemens is looking for a Procurement Engineer for the Peachtree Corners, GA / Hingham, MA location. The person will be responsible for the early involvement of procurement and suppliers in the product development/manufacturing process as well as monitoring current products to minimize the overall costs. The Procurement Engineer will be a main interface to engineering from procurement to ensure the latest technical innovations from the supply base are presented to the engineering team.

The role also involves working in R&D and interfacing with Commodity Managers on should-cost models and innovating ways to reduce cost during the design phase. The Procurement Engineer will be the primary technical interface to suppliers, ensuring compliance to cost goals and technical innovations to keep Siemens at the forefront of new technologies in the supply chain.

Responsibilities
  • Early Procurement Involvement:
    Engage in preliminary development and be actively involved in the product development/manufacturing process. Push forward cost reduction measures (design to cost, target costing, standardization, key data, etc.) to achieve target costs for materials and reduce overall material costs. Represent Strategic Procurement in R&D project meetings and ensure milestone deliverables. Collaborate with R&D engineers and commodity managers to align development goals with commodity strategies.
  • Early Supplier Integration:
    Include suppliers and conduct cost-benefit analysis workshops, innovation workshops, and concept competitions with key suppliers to focus on key component/project functions. Optimize material cost through Design to Cost (DtC). Review material cost targets.
  • Analysis:
    Initiate market observation and provide market information/analyses on international technology and price trends to identify new suppliers and technologies in the supply chain.
  • Alignment of Technology Roadmaps:
    Introduce and follow up cross-functional procurement strategies to ensure linkage of commodity strategies and technological market trends.
  • Strategy Alignment:
    Support activities planned by the lines of business to harmonize and implement technology line-of-business strategies with procurement strategies. Support Core/Non-core initiatives and participate in sourcing strategy development with the commodity team.
  • Strategy Deployment:
    Drive sourcing decisions with interface partners to incorporate technological knowhow and safeguard security strategies. Drive cross-functional sourcing concepts.
  • Business Support:
    Provide input for quotes, workshops, scope of material (BoM assessment), and realization of potential savings for projects in lines of business.
  • Supplier Management:
    Assess and develop suppliers from a technological standpoint (if necessary, jointly with interface partners) to concentrate on the best suppliers.
  • Knowledge Management:
    Participate in work groups and projects to stay informed and share information early with others.
  • Risk Mitigation:
    Apply preventive methods to minimize risk. Design, maintain, and improve specific requirements, specifications, and concepts based on supplier categorization.
  • Supplier Integration:
    Coordinate product/service qualifications and approvals based on specific requirements/specifications (Ready to Order).
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in procurement and supply chain management including R&D, manufacturing, procurement, finance and supplier interfacing.
  • Excellent analytical skills and good judgment in assessing risks and control deficiencies, with confidence in suggesting practical alternative solutions.
  • Ability to travel 20%
  • Must be eligible to work in the US with no sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS Electrical Engineering Degree
  • Master’s degree
  • Industry experience within a Mechanical / Electrical / Electronic component manufacturing business
  • Project management knowledge and execution leadership experience
