Course Overview

This course explores how educators in higher education and professional programs approach curriculum development from an innovative perspective. Curriculum theories, philosophical perspectives in the literature, and current realities in the classroom will be explored. Curriculum challenges with respect to access, quality and funding in higher education will be identified and analyzed, and innovative strategies for addressing these challenges will be generated.

Class schedule: Monday 17:00‑20:00, Wednesday 17:00‑20:00 (Online Synchronous)

Appointment dates: July 1, 2026 to August 31, 2026

Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctorate in Higher Education or a related field AND a master’s degree in a professional field other than education (e.g., engineering, library science, law)
  • Demonstrated record of scholarship in Higher Education and the subject area of the course
  • Practical experience related to the topic of the course
  • Successful graduate teaching experience in the subject area of the course and a successful track record of teaching online, preferably using Canvas/Quercus

  • Evaluate student work and provide feedback

  • $10,510.04 – Sessional Lecturer I – Long Term
  • $10,510.04 – Sessional Lecturer II
  • $10,760.28 – Sessional Lecturer II – Long Term
  • $10,760.28 – Sessional Lecturer III
  • $11,030.36 – Sessional Lecturer III – Long Term

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement. Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are covered by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement rather than the Unit 3 collective agreement, and should not apply for positions posted under the Unit 3 collective agreement.
