Position: Temporary Instructional Para educator - Resource Room

Location: Whittier Elementary School

Hours: 6.25/day Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday; 5.00 on Wednesdays; 4.00 on Early Release Days; 180-day calendar

Salary: $21.38 - $23.72 per hour

Salary Schedules

AA Degree - $0.50/hour extra

BA Degree - $0.75/hour extra

New hires are conditional upon passing a fingerprint screening

Responsibilities
  • Use trauma-informed strategies to build safe, supportive relationships, maintain consistent routines, and respond to student needs with empathy and emotional regulation support.
  • Accurately collect and document data related to academic progress, behavior, and IEP goals, ensuring timely communication with the supervising teacher and support team.
  • Follow established behavior intervention plans and apply CPI-approved strategies to de-escalate challenging behaviors, ensuring a safe and structured learning environment for all students.
  • Assist in delivering teacher-directed instruction and reinforcement in academic, behavioral, and social-emotional areas in both individual and small group formats, adapting support to meet student needs.
  • Administer first aid to provide emergency care.
  • Provide one-on-one instruction or group instruction.
  • Assist classroom teacher and/or building administrator(s) with classroom management.
  • Assist with preparing materials needed to conduct lessons.
  • Provide support or supervision of students, including but not limited to arrival and/or departure, cross walk duty, transit to bus, transit from bus, recess, breakfast/lunch time, hall monitoring, unloading and/or loading wheelchair-bound students.
  • Assist with reporting misconduct on school property and/or school bus routes.
  • Assist with light cleaning, issuing of equipment for necessary activities, setting up, taking down and/or supervising students during age-appropriate games/activities.
  • Adhere to district safety policies and program guidelines.
  • Attend and complete annual required training hours for para educator certification.
  • Provide support, supervision and/or assistance administering tests, quizzes, exams, or any assessment as directed by teacher for evaluating student progress or learning.
  • Maintain accurate and efficient student records within student information management system(s).
  • Translate verbal and/or written information to assist students, district personnel, parents and/or guardians. (Bilingual only).
  • Assist with needs related to diapering, tube feeding, toileting, catheters, and/or lifting. Additional pay provided if performing these duties per CBA.
  • Participate in district meetings to communicate information and gain feedback and/or direction on a variety of issues.
  • Assist with supervision of students to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
Non-Essential Responsibilities
  • Assist other personnel as needed to support them with their work activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
  • Assist with contacting parents and/or guardians regarding student behavior and academic progress.
  • Willingness to review materials provided by district personnel and/or attend college classes to improve instructional skills.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Bilingual and/or Biliterate (Spanish), preferred but not required.
  • Must meet one or more of the following:
    • Associates degree (AAS, AA) or higher;
    • Earned 72 college quarter credits or 48 semester credits in college level 100 or higher courses;
    • Passing score on the Educational Testing Service (ETS) para educator assessment.
