Overview

The Patient Care Manager (PCM) facilitates teamwork and unit pride by advocating for an environment that promotes high patient care standards and implements strategies to ensure patient and physician satisfaction. The PCM is a registered professional nurse responsible for 24-hour leadership of specific nursing unit(s) within the Department of Nursing. The PCM works in a cooperative and consultative relationship with the Nurse Management Team and other disciplines under the direction of the Department Director.

The PCM assumes authority, accountability and leadership/management responsibility for the specific unit(s) as assigned. In addition to PCM duties, they may be assigned to work house supervisor shifts as needed. The PCM provides leadership to achieve unit, departmental, and organizational objectives within a rapidly changing environment and applies advanced knowledge of nursing and management to manage systems of patient care, personnel development, fiscal and unit operations, performance improvement, and program development.

The PCM promotes innovation and excellence in clinical, service, and team performance.

Responsibilities
  • Lead nursing unit(s) with 24-hour leadership and ensure high patient care standards.
  • Advocate for patient and physician satisfaction and promote teamwork and unit pride.
  • Collaborate with the Nurse Management Team and other disciplines under the direction of the Department Director.
  • Provide leadership to achieve unit, departmental, and organizational objectives in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Apply advanced nursing and management knowledge to oversee patient care systems, personnel development, fiscal and unit operations, performance improvement, and program development.
  • Promote innovation and excellence in clinical, service, and team performance.
Education

Graduate from NLN School of Nursing required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.

License

Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Mississippi.

Certification

Must complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer. Must complete de-escalation training by the end of position orientation (90 days); must have an appropriate level of de-escalation training.

Experience

Three (3) years of progressive professional nursing experience in an acute care hospital required. Management experience preferred.

Physical Demands
  • Work is mainly active: involves regular movement around the unit and facility, and travel to another facility within the SRHS service area. May involve lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects.
  • Repetitive motions of wrists, hands, and fingers while operating standard office equipment (computer, copier, 10-key).
  • Ability to perceive sound at normal levels, close visual acuity, and shift gaze between computer monitor and printed materials.
  • Must be able to be active for extended periods and work flexible hours when required.
Mental Demands
  • Demonstrate keen mental faculties, assessment, and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong communication skills (spoken and written) and emotional stability to handle high-stress situations.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines; attention to detail and multi-tasking in complex situations.
  • Maintain collaborative and respectful working relationships within SRHS and other organizations.
Special Demands
  • Proficient with a variety of computer software applications (MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and seek guidance as needed.
  • Understand general financial operations and major AR goals in a healthcare environment.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the SRHS service area and out-of-state for education purposes; travel may be required with personal transportation.
