Job DescriptionAn Ingalls Pipe Welder is responsible for performing pipe welding procedures on Stainless Steel and Copper-Nickel pipe using Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW/TIG). The shipyard environment operates around the clock. Production areas may involve working at different heights, in confined spaces, and in various weather conditions, with multiple shifts (day or night) depending on shipbuilding needs. Ingalls emphasizes safe work practices with safety procedures meeting or exceeding industry standards.
Materials and processes include Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) sometimes known as “stick welding” and Flux-Core Arc Welding (FCAW) also known as “wire welding.”
- Pipe Welder must have graduated from a pipe welder program at a vocational-technical school or other training school.
- Program must have training in TIG root and stick fill and cap on steel piping in the 6GR position.
