As a First‑Class Pipefitter, you supply the lifeblood of our naval vessels in a volatile environment involving fuel, steam, ventilation, hydraulic, chemical, heating, and cooling systems.
Job DescriptionAn Ingalls First-Class Pipefitter, also referred to as a Journeyman Pipefitter, is responsible for fitting pipe composed of steel, galvanized, copper, copper‑nickel, and stainless steel, along with the appropriate valves and fittings. The work is performed in accordance with drawings, arrangements, and blueprints. Shipyard production areas involve working at varying heights, confined spaces, different weather conditions, and 24‑hour shifts. Safety procedures that exceed industry standards are strictly enforced, and work may be scheduled day or night depending on ship construction status.
BasicQualifications
- Minimum 4 years trade experience
- Basic math, reading, and comprehension skills
- Knowledge of the layout, fit‑up, fabrication, and installation of pipe, flanges, and valves
- Read and interpret trade drawings and/or blueprints utilizing both metric and standard measurements
- Knowledge of setting and erecting units with proficiency in the use of datum lines
- Familiarity with fit‑up, alignment tolerances, and advanced blueprint reading skills
