GENERAL FUNCTION:
The pipe welder welds together piping metal components as specified by blueprints, work orders or oral instructions. The pipe welder utilizes knowledge of working characteristics of metallic and non-metallic materials including the specifications of the particular equipment to be used in the process.
REQUIREMENTS:- Must have at least 3 years of pipe welding experience.
- Must be able to provide welds to meet ASME B31standards.
- Must be able to self-inspect their welds to make sure they meet ASME B31 standards prior to turning over each weld to their supervisor.
- Must be able to complete daily weld footage that is required by the company's standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Weld up prefabricated piping components using various welding procedures as outlined in blueprints or specifications.
- Chips off excess weld, slag and splatter using a power grinder, chipping gun or manual hammer.
Knowledge of pipe welding procedures and safety requirements.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:Prior pipe welding experience is preferred but vocational training is acceptable. In some cases ABS (American Bureau of Ship Building) certification is required which confirms their competency indifferent areas of pipe welding procedures.
