Job DescriptionAn Ingalls Welder is responsible for joining different types of metal materials using various welding processes such as Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW, stick welding) and Flux-Core Arc Welding (FCAW, wire welding). The shipyard operates around the clock, with work at different heights, confined spaces, and various weather conditions. A welder may be required to work day or night depending on the number of ships under construction at any time.
Safety is paramount, and we expect adherence to industry standards.
- Minimum of one (1) year of work experience in FCAW (Flux Core) and SWAW (Stick) welding, and the ability to pass military standard tests in the vertical (3G), horizontal (2G), and overhead (4G) positions.
- Successful completion of a welding technical training certification program will be considered in lieu of experience. Qualified applicants must pass a hands‑on skill assessment; the weld test includes x‑ray quality.
High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred. Previous experience in shipbuilding preferred.
